MESO developed the software for a full earth globe projection with 6 projectors. An inflatable sphere with 3.80m diameter was used as a projection surface for four projectors along the equator and two projectors for showing the north and south pole regions. Because the software runs in real time the globe could be moved in all directions and astounding effects generated. One feature was the adjustment of day and nighttime another one the projection of cloud covers. Additionally to the view of our earth from an astronaut´s perspective, the globe-projection displayed BASF-related illustrations, a world map with all BASF sites as well as images concerning the topic „man and nature“.

MESO was asked to join the BASF World Globe project as contractor of CIRC Corporate Experience and became part of the project team Forum e3, together with 3deluxe graphics (Wiesbaden), Heinrich Fiedeler Industrial Design (Wiesbaden) and Gahrens & Battermann (Frankfurt/Main).

Global Earth Projection – Facts:

- The globe weighs 27 kg and is 3,80 m in diameter. The model scale is 1:33.333.333 (1cm = 33 km)
- The moon would orbit the globe only 114m away and have a diameter of 1m.
- The sun would be 44,5 km away from the globe with a diameter of 1,3 km, Venus would be 12 km and Mars 23 km away.
- The textures were satellite images from NASA
